In collaboration with the leadership and faculty of Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners undertook development of a master plan consolidating the school’s footprint of dispersed spaces, currently lacking a center.
Key to this endeavor was establishing a common Concourse level where faculty, students and administration can interact. A new paradigm for clinical spaces has been developed, of which Vanderbilt Clinic Level 5 is the prototype. These clinical spaces will be vertically arrayed above and below an integrating Concourse level. The rationalized and consolidated organization for the major functional elements of the College optimize the educational model, student life and institutional coherence while allowing the College of Dental Medicine to continue at the heart of the Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital medical community.
