Bank headquarters with landscaped public plaza |
Located on an important and sensitive site, in the heart of the financial district of Tel Aviv, opposite the new Stock Exchange, this glass tower is to serve as the headquarters of The First International Bank of Israel. The selection of this particular site reflects the
Bank's ongoing commitment to the city of Tel Aviv and its decision to remain a longterm presence in the financial district. The distinctive form of this office tower has its origin in a conviction that the privilege of building on this key site carries with it the corollary obligation to enrich the public realm of Rothschild Boulevard. Hence the tower has been shaped so that it does not stand aloof from its surroundings but rather makes a series of engaging gestures toward its neighbors,
both the small-scaled historic buildings to be preserved and the larger commercial structures. The building is angled back from Rothschild Boulevard, making a generous landscaped public plaza, that extends beneath the tower to create a sheltered gathering place where passersby will be invited to pause and enjoy the presence of the historic neighbors and the landscaped environment. The design solution, an asymmetrical tower based on a system of equilateral triangles, addressing both the
skyline and the street, has been developed within the parameters established by the Tel Aviv Municipality. Within the scope of the project is the preservation of two historic buildings, the Beit Va'ad Hakehila and the Rifka Greenwald House, which will be restored and made accessible to the public. |
